‘The Voice of Chester County’: Remembering Beloved Reporter After Recent Passing

The community remembers the life and career of longtime Daily Local News reporter Michael P. Rellahan, who recently passed at age 68.

Friends, family, and colleagues throughout Chester County are honoring the life and career of beloved reporter Michael P. Rellahan after his recent passing, writes Nancy March for The Daily Local News.

The Daily Local News reporter passed last Saturday at his West Chester home at the age of sixty-eight.

Originally from Cincinnati, Rellahan worked as a staff writer for The Daily Local News for over four decades. His forty-three-year tenure earned him a reputation as “the voice of Chester County.”

A memorial service at Downingtown Friends Meeting, for which Rellahan was a longtime member, will take place at a to-be-determined date.

As the community mourns, memories and reflections on “Mr. Mike” celebrate his life and work.

Elected officials and local reporters shared their reverence for Rellahan’s honesty, journalistic integrity, and commitment to social justice. Daily Local News managing editor Bill March said, “Other reporters, especially the younger ones, knew that Mike was the one who could point them in the right direction to get to the heart of stories.”

Throughout his career, Rellahan completed profiles, reported on crimes and courtroom proceedings, and highlighted the lives of everyone from high-profile politicians to local residents. His coverage of Danelo Cavalcante’s 2023 escape from Chester County Prison brought The Daily Local News national attention.

About Rellahan’s impact, county commissioners vice chair Marian Moskowitz said, “Chester County lost a talented journalist in Michael Rellahan—a voice that informed, questioned, and inspired. We are grateful for all he gave to our community.”
