Bensalem-Based Philly Pretzel Factory Dives Into Desserts with New Acquisition

The popular Bensalem-based soft pretzel chain, Philly Pretzel Factory, plans to launch desserts following the Cone Guys acquisition.

Philly Pretzel Factory, the popular soft pretzel chain based in Bensalem, is preparing to introduce desserts to its mainly salty snack menu, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company, which recently completed the acquisition of Bristol-based Cone Guys, an ice cream cone manufacturer, is planning to launch water ice and soft serve ice cream in select locations in 2026.

These sweet additions will enable Philly Pretzel Factory stores to generate evening business. Currently, the stores typically close at 5 PM, but offering ice cream and water ice could keep them open several extra hours.

“Sometimes I feel like brands just add something and it doesn’t necessarily fit into what they’re really doing,” said Philly Pretzel Factory CEO Dan DiZio. “This just feels good. Ice cream and water ice feels natural with pretzels.”

The company, which has been producing a variety of pretzel snacks for 27 years, has spent the last year developing flavor profiles for new treats that its stores can make in-house.

In the future, this will allow the company to add gelati and ice cream sundaes to its menu.
