The West Chester United Soccer Club has scored a national championship victory for amateur soccer, reports Jennaphr Frederick for Fox29 Philadelphia.
The team recently won the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) National Amateur Cup Championship. The title has not been won by a Philadelphia-area team since the Philadelphia Inter won in 1974.
West Chester United team members consist of collegiate players, players hoping to compete professionally, and full-time working professionals playing amateur soccer exclusively.
The volunteer-coached organization includes different teams and league competitions within the club. To win the National Amateur Cup, the team first dominated state and regional competitions before securing the national title.
The team played from October 2024 through July to earn the recent win.
About the volunteer-style team, one player shared that the community and opportunity itself make the commitment worthwhile, saying, “We love being here. We love the environment that the club gives us. It’s just a great opportunity for all of us to be here.”
