Pottstown’s Christian bookstore, On The Third Day, has closed after nearly two decades of faith, family, and community, writes Donna Rovins for the Pottstown Mercury.
The Pottstown institution shut its doors for good on July 26, ending an 18-year run under owner Charlene Palmer Wiggs.
Wiggs, who took over the shop in 2007 from founders Dennis and Edie Eckert, said the decision was driven by a desire to spend more time with aging parents across the country. “It’s the right time now,” she said, despite bittersweet goodbyes from longtime customers.
The shop relocated from its original location in 2014 to make room for a laser engraver, one of many unique offerings alongside books, gifts, and scripture-inspired items. Over the years, Wiggs and her team cultivated more than sales; they built a ministry of connection.
“We have four generations of customers,” Wiggs said. “It’s been kind of like a family.”
Efforts to find a buyer fell short, despite serious interest. In the final days, flowers and farewell cards flooded the store, a testament to its place in the community. “This has been 18 years of a blessing,” said Wiggs.
