Malvern Resident, Eagles Star Saquon Barkley Nominated for ESPY Awards

An icon in the Philadelphia area, Barkley’s legendary year for the Eagles has earned him three nominations at this year’s ESPY Awards.

Philadelphia Eagles running back and Malvern resident Saquon Barkley has continued his victorious year with nominations for three ESPY Awards, writes Geoffrey A. Knox for Eagles Wire.

Each year, ESPN hosts the ESPY Awards, standing for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly. The awards honor the top athletes and athletic achievements throughout the year for both performance and sportsmanship.

Following the Eagles‘ unforgettable Super Bowl Win, Barkley is nominated for Best Athlete—Men’s Sports, Best Play, and Best NFL Player.

Prior to his ESPY nominations, Barkley was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

For Best Male Athlete, Barkley runs against NFL MVP Josh Allen, NBA point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohanti.

For Best NFL Player, Barkley stands against Allen, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

The ESPY Awards feature both gendered and gender-neutral categories. For Best Play, for example, Barkley competes against Sabrina Ionescu’s three-point shot that earned the New York Liberty a game three win in the WNBA Finals.

Nominees and categories exceed just national sports leagues. Gymnastics icon Simone Biles contends for Best Athlete—Women’s Sports, and rugby star Ilona Maher for Best Breakthrough Athlete.

The ESPYS utilize fan voting to decide on winners for each category. Viewers can watch the 2025 ESPY Awards live on July 16 at 8 PM on ABC.
