Will Riley, a standout from the Phelps School in Malvern, was a first-round NBA Draft pick and is being sent to the Washington Wizards in a trade, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Canadian small forward was originally selected with the 21st overall pick by the Utah Jazz, but was then traded to the Wizards.
During his last season at the University of Illinois, Riley averaged 12.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists and was named the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year.
In high school, Riley was a five-star prospect. He joined the Chester County school in 2022 and decided to forgo his final season by reclassifying into the class of 2024 and preparing to play at the collegiate level.
When Riley signed with Illinois, he became the highest-ranked high school recruit in the program’s history.
He had drawn interest from NBA scouts before ever stepping onto a college court and appeared in ESPN’s mock draft as a projected first-round pick.
He is also the first player from the Phelps School to be selected in the NBA Draft.
