Westtown School’s girls’ basketball team and Phelps School’s boys’ team have both secured Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association championships, writes Johnny Zawislak for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Moose, with help from sophomore Jordyn Palmer, triumphed over Friends’ Central in a rematch of last year’s PAISAA championship, with a convincing 71-47 win. This marked Westtown School’s fourth straight title.
“We have a lot of trust within each other,” said Westtown’s Atlee Vanesko. “We’re with each other all the time, so we have a lot of chemistry. We’re like sisters. We go out, we have fun, and we hold each other accountable.”
The team are now waiting to see if they will be selected to play in the Chipotle Nationals at the start of April in Fishers, Indiana.
Meanwhile, the Phelps School Lions, who missed out on the championship last year, defeated The Hill School 66-56 to claim their first title since the 2015 season.
“It just means so much,” said center Justin Houser. “This is the dream way to go out. We just won our state championship in our last game of the season. For me, it’s just about the best ending possible.”
