West Chester Grad Combines Beef Jerky and Motorsports with New Business Venture

WCU alumnus Kristian Sigismondi created Open Road Jerky to serve healthy, high-protein snacks to fellow car enthusiasts.

A West Chester University graduate has combined healthy snacks with motorsports with the creation of Open Road Jerky, writes Anne E. Hill for Main Line Today.

23-year-old entrepreneur Kristian Sigismondi began making his own beef jerky recipes while studying computer science at WCU. What started as a hobby soon turned into a new business ventureone that combined Sigismondi’s longtime love for racing and automobiles.

Sigismondi was inspired by strongly branded energy drinks that appeal to a specific audience. He began Open Road Jerky by tailoring the product and branding to fellow car enthusiasts and automobile workers.

Sigismondi shared that the company’s goal is to “create the perfect snack for those who love automotive machines, crave a burst of protein for late night garage wrenching, and appreciate delicious, handcrafted jerky.”

Open Road Jerky officially launched in April 2024. The jerky is made in small batches with simple ingredients but no shortage of flavor.

Available flavors range from classic hickory to hot honey to sweet habanero.

Sigismondi’s childhood friends Nathan Jackard and Matthew Johnston soon joined as partners. The company has since partnered with local car dealerships and internet influencers to market the product.

Over 10,000 bags have been sold through the company’s website. Looking to the future, Open Road Jerky currently looks toward retail opportunities to further grow the product and customer base.
