Freedom Village at Brandywine participated in the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual initiative, The Longest Day, on June 20, 2025, raising more than $1,300 to support awareness and research efforts for Alzheimer’s disease and all other forms of dementia.
The Longest Day – held annually on the summer solstice, the day with the most light – shines a spotlight on the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission to outshine the darkness of dementia through nationwide fundraising events. Communities and individuals across the country take part by organizing activities of their choice to raise funds and awareness.
At Freedom Village, residents, staff and families came together for a day filled with meaningful action, hosting three fundraising events: a car wash, an ice cream sundae bar and a “dress down” day that allowed staff to donate in exchange for wearing jeans to work. The suggested donations were $10 for a car wash, $5 for a sundae and $3 for dress down day.
While the original fundraising goal was $500, the community more than doubled its expectations. The car wash alone raised over $650, and the ice cream sundae bar brought in more than $600.
“We are incredibly proud of our community for coming together in such a heartfelt way to support this important cause,” said Danielle Geyer, Executive Director at Freedom Village at Brandywine. “Every dollar raised brings us closer to better care, research and ultimately a cure for Alzheimer’s.”
“Many of us at Freedom Village have seen firsthand how Alzheimer’s and dementia impact families,” said Kim Ranck, Community Life Services Director at Freedom Village at Brandywine. “Participating in The Longest Day gave us a chance to not only raise funds, but to honor those we care for every day. It was truly a team effort.”
