David’s Bridal is turning to artificial intelligence in an ambitious bid to reinvent wedding planning, writes James Thomason for Venture Beat.
At a newly opened concept store in Florida, brides are greeted not only by dresses but by Pearl Planner, a high-tech AI platform that curates vision boards, generates personalized timelines, and recommends vendors based on individual style.
The system is the brainchild of CEO Kelly Cook and Silicon Valley veteran Elina Vilk. Vilk joined as president to lead the transformation. Her strategy is to build a distributed AI team embedded across departments. This will accelerate innovation and shift the King of Prussia company from a dress retailer to a tech-powered wedding platform.
Pearl Planner, a proprietary tool that learns a bride’s aesthetic via images rather than forms and offers emotionally intelligent support. The deeply personal AI goes beyond logistics. It curates dashboard themes, invitation designs, and task prioritization based on the bride’s evolving vision.
Pearl is already a standalone business unit, generating revenue via vendor subscriptions. With Pearl Planner Pro launching for wedding planners this fall, David’s Bridal aims to power both DIY and professional planning journeys.
