This Philly Doctor is Throwing His Name in Race for Pennsylvania Congressional Seat

Dr. Dave Oxman of Jefferson Hospital is the latest candidate to join the field to run for Pennsylvania's Third Congressional District, which will be open due to the impending retirement of Congressman Dwight Evans.

Dr. Dave Oxman, an intensive-care physician and a medical school professor at Thomas Jefferson University, is running for Congress, wrties Julia Terruso for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

While he doesn’t have a background in politics, he is the newest candidate for Pennsylvania’s Third Congressional District.

He joins State Rep. Chris Rabb and State Sen. Sharif Street in the race to replace retiring longtime Congressman Dwight Evans in 2026.

Oxman’s decision to run has a lot to do with what he has experienced working in the medical field.

More specifically, he wants to improve the nation’s healthcare system.

America has the greatest healthcare in the world, but what does it matter when so many Americans can’t access it or face financial ruin when they do?” Oxman said in the video announcing his candidacy.

Born in Mount Airy and raised in Wyndmoor before graduating from Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Oxman, 58, now of Bella Vista, began his tenure at Jefferson Health in 2010.

As an outsider of the political sphere, Oxman believes his work and background caring for people from all walks of life gives him a unique perspective.

In addition, running for office affords him an opportunity to do even more.
