Kennett Symphony Rebrands to Reflect Expanding Reach

After much consideration, the Kennett Symphony has rebranded as the Brandywine Valley Symphony to signal its expanding reach.

After much consideration, the Kennett Symphony has rebranded as the Brandywine Valley Symphony to signal its expanding reach beyond Kennett Square, writes Peter Dobrin for The Philadelphia Inquirer

“We serve, in terms of a cultural footprint, an area much larger – to northern Delaware and the surrounding counties,” said Timothy Blair, the orchestra’s board president.

The name will also resonate more widely.

“If you mention the Brandywine Valley anywhere in the nation, people immediately know it,” said Blair. “The Brandywine Valley is known for its arts, the Wyeths. Obviously, people think of all the great history here and all of the culture.”

The name change goes into effect immediately.

The now fully professional ensemble began in 1940 as a community orchestra. Each season, it presents four orchestral concerts and three chamber music concerts, and recently has more than doubled its roster of musicians from 21 to 52.

It will hold its first performance under its new name on Oct. 12 at the Duffy Arts Center at Malvern Preparatory School, featuring pianist Anna Shelest in the Grieg Piano Concerto in A Minor.

The orchestra will also perform at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall next year in October.
