Philadelphia Ranks Among the Toughest Commutes in the U.S., Find Out Why

A recent ranking of the top 15 toughest cities in the United States to commute in and around includes Philadelphia.

Commuting throughout various cities throughout the United States can be quite tough, particularly in some regions compared to some others, writes Shallom Joe for Daily Fetch via MSN.

While some cities continue to be among the toughest, there are others than have managed to improved things.

According to a recent study, Philadelphia is the 12th toughest commute in the country.

Among the main challenges facing Philadelphia’s commuters is the city’s transportation infrastructure.

More specifically, its aging transit system and congested roadways are big factors.

With SEPTA delays a common occurrence, along with construction and limited parking serving as further hindrances, Philly has its share.

Added together, these lead to longer commute times and increased stress for residents, pedestrians, and drivers.

SEPTA is also likely heading toward service cuts and increased fares, which would result in even longer commutes and reduced ridership.

Reduced transit service would mean more vehicles on the road, along with increased traffic congestion and delays.

Meanwhile, its Pennsylvania brethren Pittsburgh has reduced road congestion and improved its commute times by modernizing its public transportation system.

That makes it more livable for many compared to Philly.
