Tague Davis began his baseball career as a two-way player at Malvern Prep and has gone on to set the freshman home run record at Louisville, writes Devin Jackson for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
His next stop is the College World Series in Omaha.
In a recent game against Miami, it was Davis who ran under a deep fly ball to center to catch the final out and secure the Cardinals’ spot in the championship.
He called the moment “pure bliss.”
“Coach [Dan] McDonnell said this to us: ‘We can be a part of something really special,’” said Davis. “And I believe we’re doing that as we speak. Coming out of Malvern, you want to go to a place that you’ll learn to love the game even more. And Louisville is definitely the spot for me.”
Davis has been the team’s primary first baseman throughout the entire season. He is the leader in home runs with 18, a freshman record for the school, and already hitting .286.
He has “pushed his ceiling and pushed his bar another level,” said Louisville assistant coach Adam Vrable.
Davis is the son of former MLB catcher Ben Davis, who also came out of Malvern Prep. The elder Davis now works as a color commentator and in-studio analyst for the Philadelphia Phillies at NBC.
