Several Chester County schools will receive solar-panel grants as part of the state’s Solar for Schools program, writes Kristen A. Graham for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Pennsylvania officials recently approved $22.6 million in state funding for energy projects in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, and Delaware counties.
So, with this additional funding, lawmakers and educational leaders are hoping that it will help to ease pressure on already tight school budgets.
The program is the brainchild of State Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler, who introduced and advocated for the law adopted last year.
Officials allocated $25 million for the first round and awarded 74 grants to cover panel purchase and installation intended to reduce utility costs for school districts.
Chester County recipients of state solar panel grants include Octorara Area School District, which was awarded $300,000. Owen J. Roberts School District received $300,000 for East Coventry, $300,000 for East Vincent, and $264,552 for North Coventry.
Additionally, Phoenixville Area School District was awarded $300,000 each for Manavon Elementary and Schuylkill Elementary. Unionville-Chadds Ford School District gets $299,580 for Unionville High School. Finally, West Chester Area School District will receive $167,514 for East Bradford Elementary School.
