Germantown Academy Quarterback Xavier Stearn Pursues Inter-Academic League Record Before Rutgers

Xavier Stearn, a rising quarterback at Germantown Academy, aims to break the Inter-Academic League’s career passing yardage record before heading to Rutgers.

Xavier Stearn, a rising senior quarterback at Germantown Academy, aims to break the Inter-Academic League’s career passing yardage record before heading to Rutgers, writes Owen Hewitt for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 138-year-old league’s record of 6,172 yards was set in 2017 by Penn Charter’s Michael Hnatkowsky.

Stearn has thrown for 4,516 yards during his two seasons as the starter, and now needs 1,657 to pass Hnatkowsky.

“I’ve pretty much broken everything at GA,” said Stearn. “That would be a big goal for me, just because the Inter-Ac is such a prestigious league that’s been around for a while. I feel like that would be really special, to break it. Especially in my senior year.”

The 6-foot-6, three-star prospect first received interest from Rutgers last summer, but it did not go any further because La Salle’s Gavin Sidwar committed to the school on July 1.

However, Sidwar withdrew his pledge in October, opening a spot. Kirk Ciarrocca, Rutgers offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, who had seen Stearn throw months earlier, returned to Germantown Academy in May.

This visit was followed by an offer from the Scarlet Knights on May 17.
