Golf fans from around the world flocked to Flourtown’s Philadelphia Cricket Club for the PGA Tour’s Truist Championship, delivering a major economic boost to the region, writes Briana Smith for 6abc.
“We’re the oldest country club in America, and we have a ton of history, and it’s great to welcome the modern players and game to our town,” said Tom Sheridan, Philadelphia Cricket Club’s president.
The championship took place between May 8 and 11 and is projected to have generated between $50 million and $70 million for the region.
Local businesses were prepared for the surge in activity ahead of the event. Many area hotels were sold out, while Dave Longwell, CEO of Rent Like A Champion, noted that numerous players, corporate sponsors, and visitors opted to rent homes for the week.
“Primarily, it just feels more like home,” said Longwell. “They want that touch of hospitality. They want that level of comfort and more amenities a home can offer that a hotel can’t. Our homeowners around the Philadelphia Cricket Club have really come through and been great hosts.”
