Phoenixville Quarterback Turned Javelin Star Advances to Statewide Championships

After taking up javelin to cross-train for football, Talon Romance is one of four Phoenixville High Schoolers to advance to PIAA finals.

Phoenixville quarterback turned javelin athlete Talon Romance is set to compete at the statewide track and field championships, writes Owen Hewitt for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Romance will compete at the 2025 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Track and Field Championships. He is one of four other Phoenixville Area High School athletes.

Currently a senior at Phoenixville, Romance was the starting quarterback for the Phantoms for his last year. He was originally unfamiliar with javelin throwing, but was convinced by football coach Jamie Gray to throw as a way to cross-train during his freshman year.

Later, Romance would go on to help the team make the conference championship in his first year. More recently, he threw a personal and school record of 202 feet 4 inches at the District 1 meet in advance of the PIAA Championships on May 23 and 24.

Competing in javelin has allowed Romance to further sharpen his football skills. He will continue his athletic career at Mount Union, a Division III university in Ohio, where he plans to continue both sports.

Romance shared that the connection with his fellow athletes is what makes the experience worthwhile, especially as he leaves Phoenixville and advances to the collegiate level this fall.
