When it comes to protecting the environment and strengthening local communities, Haverford Systems, a leading audiovisual integration company based in Downingtown, isn’t just talking the talk — it’s walking the walk.
Through its recently updated Corporate Social Responsibility Charter, Haverford Systems has made environmental stewardship, ethical sourcing, and community outreach core pillars of its business strategy. From converting its entire vehicle fleet to hybrid or electric models back in 2010 to installing a solar array that now powers 100 percent of its headquarters, the company is proving that even highly technical industries can lead the way toward a more sustainable future.
“Our commitment goes beyond compliance,” said Jerry Donohue, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Haverford Systems. “We actively look for ways to reduce our environmental impact at every stage — from the supply chain to the packaging materials we use, to how we power our operations.”
This year, Haverford Systems took another major step by installing a cardboard perforation shredder, allowing it to eliminate the use of plastic bubble wrap in favor of repurposed, eco-friendly materials. Today, 96 percent of the company’s packaging materials are free from Styrofoam and other plastics, often using compostable options where moisture protection is needed.
On a larger scale, Haverford Systems’ efforts have earned it recognition as a SmartWay Transport Partner by the Environmental Protection Agency, an honor that highlights the company’s commitment to reducing transportation-related emissions.
Yet, sustainability at Haverford Systems doesn’t stop at the warehouse door. It collaborates with local nonprofits like The Wardrobe to address clothing insecurity in the Philadelphia area and have partnered with the Chester County Food Bank to ensure that no food from company events goes to waste.
“We believe true corporate responsibility means strengthening the communities we call home,” Donohue said. “Whether it’s volunteering at a local school or ensuring our e-waste is properly recycled, we want to be part of solutions that extend beyond the audiovisual world.”
In line with its community engagement mission, Haverford Systems launched the StreamGeeks Academy in 2024, offering free hands-on classes in technical computer and streaming skills to children in underserved populations. The company also supports STEM education initiatives through pending partnerships with local organizations like Brandywine Robotics.
Transparency and accountability remain at the heart of Haverford Systems’ approach. Its newly created Sustainability Office, established in 2024, ensures the company’s initiatives are continually monitored, measured, and reported. The office includes leaders from operations, human resources, and corporate social responsibility, signaling a cross-functional commitment to ethical and sustainable growth.
“Sustainability isn’t a one-time project — it’s a mindset we apply across every aspect of our business,” Donohue said. “Sustainability isn’t what we do. It’s who we are.”
