Pennsylvania Is One of Best States to Work Remotely

Opportunities for remote work still exist, and Pennsylvania ranks among the top with favorable conditions for those who work from home.

Although the number of remote workers has declined locally and nationwide, opportunities for telework remain, and Pennsylvania ranks among the top states with favorable conditions for those who work from home, writes Lizzy McLellan Ravitch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Working from home can save people a lot of money on transportation expenses, as well as make their work environment a lot more comfortable and their hours more flexible,” said Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst.

The Keystone State placed seventh on the new list by personal finance company WalletHub, which ranked all 50 states and Washington, D.C., based on how suitable they are for remote workers.

The ranking was determined based on a variety of metrics, including the share of people working from home, access to low-priced internet, level of cybersecurity risk, and the price of electricity.

Pennsylvania placed eighth for access to affordable wired internet and No. 17 for median square footage per household member. It ranked No. 19 in cybersecurity and No. 21 for the share of the workforce working remotely, with 13.8 percent of workers telecommuting. It came in at No. 36 for average electricity prices.
