Big news in a smaller package: a bite-sized IKEA is heading to the Rio Grande Valley later this year, writes Dina Arévalo for My San Antonio.
According to state records, the Swedish retailer headquartered in Conshohocken is bringing one of its small-format stores to Pharr Town Center, a busy shopping hub in Pharr, Texas.
The $4.5 million project will repurpose two former retail spaces—previously home to Sears Appliances and Mattresses and buybuy BABY. One of the spaces recently housed a Spirit Halloween, so the transformation to minimalist furniture and meatballs is quite the twist.
Design work is being led by Ware Malcomb, a Dallas-based firm with a long IKEA resume. Renovations are expected to start in June and wrap up by mid-August, according to state filings.
The upcoming location will include a kitchen area with serving and seating, giving Valley residents a taste of IKEA’s signature showroom-and-snack-bar combo without the long drive.
This Pharr store joins IKEA’s ongoing expansion in Texas, following recent small-format announcements in San Marcos and other central Texas cities.
No official word yet from IKEA or local officials—but for now, assembly-required furniture lovers can start celebrating.
