Delaware County Community College (DCCC) invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to lace up their running shoes and take part in an important cause.
In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, DCCC will participate in the 20th Annual Delaware County Suicide Prevention and Awareness Task Force (DCSPATF) 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 3, at Ridley Creek State Park.
The event is open to the public and aims to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote suicide prevention efforts across the region. With suicide being the second leading cause of death among college students and national surveys showing that over 10 percent of college students have considered suicide, DCCC recognizes the dire need to support mental health initiatives both on campus and in the broader community.
The College’s Suicide Prevention Committee plays an active role in fostering mental wellness through programming, resources, and events throughout the academic year.
“Like too many, our community has been impacted by the loss of life to suicide,” the committee shared. “We participate in this 5K to honor those lost, support those struggling, and stand together for prevention.”
