Margo DelliCarpini, Penn State’s vice president for Commonwealth Campuses, is packing her bags for a new gig, writes Susan Snyder for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Starting July 1, she’ll become provost and vice president of academic affairs at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), the school announced Tuesday.
Her departure comes just as Penn State prepares to decide which of its 20 Commonwealth campuses may close due to ongoing enrollment declines. DelliCarpini had been one of three administrators leading the evaluation effort. A final decision is expected by commencement in May, though no closures will happen before the end of the 2026–27 academic year.
In a statement through TCNJ, DelliCarpini said she’s “thrilled” to join the college, praising its mission of access, affordability, and excellence. She also cited the chance to be closer to family as a reason for the move.
DelliCarpini came to Penn State in 2021 as chancellor of the Abington campus and became VP in 2023. Previously, she held leadership roles at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
While the future remains uncertain for many Commonwealth campuses, those in the Philadelphia region—Abington, Brandywine, and Great Valley—are safe for now. Enrollment across the system has dropped 30% since 2010, with a sharper decline in first-year students last fall.
