Parkesburg Mayor John Hagan II recently honored former councilman and local historian Gerald “Gerry” Treadway for his lifelong commitment to the borough, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News.
Treadway was recognized for his many contributions to the borough, including his work as a community advocate and neighborhood ambassador. Hagan also declared Feb. 25, Treadway’s birthday, as Gerry Treadway Day.
Treadway, who recently turned 90, visited Borough Hall last month to a surprise gathering of his family, friends, residents, and borough staff and officials who wanted to celebrate his life.
Laura Istenes, Treadway’s granddaughter, said the honor was “well-deserved.”
“He knows a lot about Parkesburg,” she said, “and it shows how much he loves this town.”
During his remarks, the mayor praised him for his many years of service to the borough.
“He served on the Parkesburg Borough Council in the early 1970s,” he said. “He was a member of the Parkesburg Library Board. He was an organizer of the Parkesburg Centennial Committee in 1972 and the Sesquicentennial Committee in 2022. He is a noted local historian and an avid collector of Parkesburg history and memorabilia.”
