Eagles Fan in Royersford Lands the Ultimate Vanity Plate

Eagles fan Dave Davis secures the ultimate memorabilia—a Pennsylvania vanity plate reading ELGSES, honoring Mayor Parker’s viral blunder.

Eagles fans have been scooping up all kinds of memorabilia this season, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

Royersford resident Dave Davis may have landed the most unique keepsake of all—a Pennsylvania vanity plate reading ELGSES.

The plate pays tribute to Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s now-infamous flub when attempting to lead an E-A-G-L-E-S chant at a playoff rally, instead spelling out E-L-G-S-E-S. Davis, a Department of Defense employee, first heard about the slip-up on Facebook and thought it was a joke. Once he confirmed it was real, he jokingly told his cousins that if the Eagles beat the Commanders, he’d apply for the plate.

A full week passed before he submitted his request, assuming someone else had already claimed it. But when his check was cashed and the plate arrived, he realized he’d won the ultimate Eagles-related prize.

Davis, an avid Eagles fan with a collection of team jerseys, put the plate on his Jeep Wrangler and took a victory lap to Wawa. “I was honked at three times,” he says. “And someone at Wawa asked for a pic.”

While his collection continues to grow, Davis admits, ELGSES will be tough to top.
