This spring, Philadelphia will debut its first outdoor sports complex featuring both pickleball and padel courts, located near Temple University, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Viva Padel & Pickleball Club in North Philadelphia is expected to open its doors in May. The club will take over around a third of the current 90,000-square-foot elevated parking lot at 1300 N. 8th Street.
The site was originally a train depot for SEPTA and was converted into a parking lot at the start of the century.
The new club will offer four professional-grade padel courts along with four pickleball courts.
“Our vision with Viva is to create a welcoming space where people can connect through their love of padel and pickleball,” said Mehdi Rhazali, co-founder of the Viva Padel & Pickleball Club. “These sports are more than just games. They’re a way to build community, stay active, and have fun.”
Viva will feature a pro shop with gear and apparel for both pickleball and padel, and will host leagues, tournaments, clinics, and social events. The complex will also have a social and viewing area for members to watch matches and connect with other players.
