One of County’s Longest-Serving, Oldest Employees Retires Amid Applause and Send-Offs

After 37 years working for the Chester County government, 94-year-old Gerri Jackson retired to applause and tributes from everyone.

For 37 years, 94-year-old Gerri Jackson has cheerfully greeted both her colleagues and Chester County officials, writes Mike Rellahan for The Daily Local News. On Feb. 15, she will bid them all goodbye.

Jackson began working for the county as a part-time member of its custodial team in September 1987. After spending nearly four decades working in the county’s various buildings, she is calling it a career.

Over that time, she has met 18 different county commissioners and hundreds of staff – all of whom enjoyed her presence.

The current commissioners – Chairman Josh Maxwell, Vice Chairwoman Marian Moskowitz, and Commissioner Eric Roe – had only glowing words for ‘Miss Gerri’ during her retirement party.

“Geraldine Jackson – Gerri – has dedicated nearly four decades to supporting (the county) through her work, her words of wisdom, and her welcoming smile,” they said in a citation. “Her work ethic and attention to detail are admirable, and she will be greatly missed by those who have had the pleasure of knowing her as a colleague and friend.”

Jackson said that she will miss everybody and plans to “come back and visit you.”
