Delaware County Council revisited a Darby Creek Elevated Trail Project this week that will connect the Darby Creek trail in Upper Darby with Lansdowne Borough.
The .4-mile boardwalk would sit between the southern terminus of the Darby Creek trail at the Kent dog park and Hoffman Park at Scottdale Road in Lansdowne, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.
The boardwalk would be built in phases along Darby Creek, with construction starting in about two years.
“This project represents a significant step forward in connecting our communities and providing safe scenic and environmentally conscious recreational opportunities,” county Councilwoman Elaine Paul Schaefer said.
It will “link residents to employment centers, recreational amenities, and nature in new and exciting ways,” Schaefer said.
County Council OK’d a contract with NV5 to work on the engineering portion of the Darby Creek Elevated Trail Project, at a cost not to exceed $700,000.
Funding would come from $226,900 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Recreation and Trails grant, $250,000 from Community Development Block Grants, $100,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act, and $123,100 from the county’s capital improvement program.
