A gorgeous six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom Edgewater Park, New Jersey mansion with a genuine George Washington tie recently hit the market for $1.75 million, writes Kevin Riordan for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Delaware River home, known as Towerview, is perfectly nestled on a beautiful three-acre lot directly across the river from Croydon with rare trees, a swimming pool, and a tennis court.
“Prospects come in the door with their eyes widening … and they are completely overwhelmed by the home,” said Lauren Soss, an agent with Compass RE.
The home is filled with historic details that have been meticulously maintained by the current owners, Diane and Sam Allen, including a grand staircase, stencil moldings, and stained glass.
The grand house began as a modest single-room farmhouse in the mid-1700s. Over time, it evolved into a stately residence and became the home of Elias Boudinot, the Revolutionary War president of the Continental Congress.
President George Washington later named Boudinot director of the U.S. Mint.
In its more recent history, the home has served as a setting for many philanthropic, civic, social, and family events.
“We could have 200 people inside in the middle of winter and not feel crowded,” said Diane Allen, a retired New Jersey Republican legislator.
