The Upper Dublin Planning Commission voted to recommend advancing BET Investments mixed-use development proposal for the Prudential tract, writes Linda Finarelli for The Reporter.
The proposal seeks ordinance amendments to accommodate Promenade East, a 90-acre development featuring 600 apartments, 160 stacked townhouses, 100,000 square feet of office space, a 150-unit senior living facility. There is room for potential additions like a hotel and police substation.
Key changes in the proposal include increasing building height limits, permitting the use of the townhouses and adjusting the parking requirements. BET Investments also wants to add significant green space between the homes.
While BET boasts the benefits of the new proposal, local residents voiced concerns about the promenade. “Traffic will be a big issue going through land development,” said Jack Smyth, a traffic and transportation engineer for Upper Dublin.
Planning Commission chairman Mike Cover assures that anything that can be done to assuage the traffic will be done.
A public hearing is scheduled for January 14, where the Upper Dublin Board of Commissioners will further evaluate the project. If approved, the development would mark a significant expansion for BET Investments, which also developed the neighboring Promenade.
