Steve Uhlenbrock, an adjunct professor of Psychology at West Chester University, nicknamed The Happy Prof by students, believes yellow is the color of happiness.

For Steve Uhlenbrock, an adjunct professor of Psychology at West Chester University, affectionately nicknamed The Happy Prof by students, yellow is the color of happiness, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

He owns over 40 yellow shirts, plays golf with yellow balls, and refers to his wife as Sunshine for brightening his days.

“When the students see yellow they think of me,” he said. “Putting a smile on their faces makes me happy.”

If he wears clothes that are not yellow, people ask him if everything is okay.

He even offers extra credit points to students who are able to out-yellow him on West Chester University’s legendary Banana Day.

Uhlenbrock teaches the three-credit elective class, Positive Psychology, or The Science of Happiness and Well Being, and recently started an advanced class.

He said the nickname stuck to him simply because he is a happy person who teaches about happiness and well-being.

He joined WCU two decades ago and immediately found his purpose.

“I fell in love with the work, with college students, and helping mold and shape their lives,” he said. “I bring happiness to my students.”
