The second annual Mrs. Roper Romp in Phoenixville paid homage to Helen Roper, the landlady on the sitcom Three’s Company, in a fun – and a bit ridiculous – way, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Around 1,500 people along with a few dogs, took to the streets of the borough sporting curly red wigs, caftans, oversized glasses, and large jewelry, all of which represent Mrs. Roper’s signature style.
The participants greeted each other with happy “Hi, Helens!” and “You look fabulous!” Some showed up dressed as other characters from the show.
The mood was high with everybody wanting to take photos with as many Helens as possible. The event included a Mrs. Roper Romp bar crawl, a group picture, and karaoke in the town square. At one point, a Mrs. Roper Romp conga line had formed as well.
“It’s so nice in this day and age to walk down the street and have a reason to say ‘Hi, Helen!’ to strangers and connect and deepen our relationship with the community,” said Megan Webb, a borough resident who came dressed as the lone Jenet from the popular 1970s show.
