Downingtown Mom Organizes Toy Drive for Children Who Have Been Affected by Gun Violence
Although the Christmas season is a hard time of year for Michelle Boyer, she’s choosing to give back to the local community to help those who share her grief, writes Shawnette Wilson for FOX29 Philadelphia.
The Downingtown mother’s home is filled with toys from the first toy drive she organized in honor of her daughter Bianca Roberson. It is held under the Bianca Nikol Merge with Mercy Foundation.
Bianca was 18 years old, about to head off to college, when she was fatally shot 7 years ago by an out-of-control driver. The man, David Desper, was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison for the crime.
“It just touches my heart. It helps me with my healing as well, knowing that we are helping other children that have been impacted by senseless gun violence,” said Boyer.
Although it doesn’t take away the pain of loss, it can help someone smile, even for a moment. Boyer currently has 8 families. Her goal is 10 families, with a maximum of 15. Her focus is children under 12 years old who have been impacted by gun violence.
Donations are being accepted until Dec. 14.
