Malvern Prep Football Coach Joe Carr Has a Long History of Excellence in the Game
Malvern Preparatory School coach Joe Carr has an unrivaled history of success in the game of football throughout the region, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.
Since 1990, Carr has coached high school football defense in Chester County, while turning down college coaching offers. With his level of experience and commitment to his community, he has shaped the sport in a unique way.
Carr has provided top training, propelling students to career highs. Finishing up his 34th season coaching, he has added to his success lineup; including Navy commit Jake Bauer and Duke commit Andrew Pellicciotta. He has also coached NFL players Dan Connor and Mark Jones.
“He’s unlike any high school coach I’ve been around. He is more like a lot of the NFL coaches I played under. He’s authentic and direct and lays out the expectations and goals clearly,” said Connor, the all-time leading tackler at Penn State University.
After dropping out of college to spend time with his sick mother and family, Carr found a coaching job at St. Katherine of Siena School. Afterward, he coached at Strath Haven High School, West Chester Rustin High School, and Archbishop Carroll.
He landed the job at Malvern Prep six years ago. In the past four years, Malvern Prep has a 33-5 record. In 2025, Carr hopes to continue his legacy of creating great players.
