After recently taking over as Malvern Prep’s new head of school on July 1, Patrick Sillup has been looking forward to the future of the 103-acre independent Catholic institution, writes Lisa Dukart for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The school just received the largest donation in its history—$20 million from the Howley Foundation—which will go towards scholarships and constructing a student experience center and an athletic team rooms by their turf fields. Torlentine Hall, previously used for general and college counseling, is being renovated into a middle school.

The campus is changing with flexibility in mind. Currently at a student body of around 632 students, Sillup said what matters most is unifying the space.

“Really, it’s about creating space that honors our needs as identified through that campus master plan, knowing that there’s flexibility within design,” he said.

Beyond construction, Sillup discussed the idea of a “micro-course” that they have been testing out for the past few years, which allows alumni, parents, or community members to sign up to teach a period of their expertise.
