The IM ABLE Foundation helped Michael Egan, a Bristol Township police officer, find adaptive ways to move forward after losing his leg, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

“I was a police officer in Bristol Township,” said Egan. “I was on duty and I was hit by a drunk driver. After that, I wound up losing my leg. I did 60 days in the hospital and about two years of rehab. And it’s been working ever since.”

For almost two decades, the IM ABLE Foundation has provided him with tools to stay active and even squat some serious weights.

“IM ABLE has really helped me out,” said Egan. “They have the people that know the work, they have OTs and PTs. And a lot of the equipment–when you’re using adaptive equipment–is extremely expensive so it’s not something I could go out and buy, but they can provide that equipment for you.”

The IM ABLE Foundation is based in Berks County. It connects people with disabilities with adaptive tools, including hand-pedal bicycles and other exercise equipment.

“You come to them with goals, and they say, ‘How can we do it?” said Egan.
