East Coventry Township Police Officer’s Heroic Actions Save Two Children Trapped in Burning Home

By

Last week, when a fire occurred at a home in East Coventry Township, Police Seargent Taylor Ashburn was one of the first on the scene to help two children escape the flames, according to a report from CBS Philly.

A 12-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl were trapped in the burning second floor of the home on Ebelhare Road, with Seargent Ashburn unable to reach them.

He yelled for them to open the window, where he guided the boy onto an awning and then to the roof of a shed to safety. The girl fell from the awning and injured her ankle, but the officer did not hesitate to run toward the fire and pull her to safety as well.

“When we turned around and got those kids to safety, the window they had just come out of was fully engulfed by flames, so I really truly believe if we hadn’t been as close as we were at that time, I don’t know if those kids would’ve made it out of the house,” said Ashburn.

He said he did what anyone would have done in that situation.
