The annual West Chester Halloween Parade was a community success, writes Shawnette Wilson for FOX29 Philadelphia. The parade goes straight through the middle of downtown and pulls in thousands of people, all trying to secure a great view.
The parade started off with the West Chester University Rams Marching Band’s electric performance. An estimated 8,000 people were at the parade.
The annual parade has become a tradition for numerous families, including the Brauer family.
“It’s a nice small town but there is such a great feel to it and the performances that they have with the bands and floats. It is just magical,” said Lauren Brauer. Her 7-year-old son, William, came to the parade dressed in his Halloween costume and was ready to get some candy and see all the flashing lights.
Candy stations were set up along the parade route for the children to enjoy while seeing their friends. Some of the popular candy at the parade were Reese’s and Twizzlers.
Parade safety is a number one priority for the borough officials.
“For security reasons, we have a lot of perimeter we shut down. We bring in police, fire, and EMS in case anything happens,” said Dave March, public information officer for the borough.
