Check Out This Local Real Haunted House Likely to Give You Goosebumps
If you are looking for a spot that will give you goosebumps at Halloween – or any time of the year – this real haunted house in Chester County is the place to go, writes Sandy Smith for the Philadelphia Magazine.
Thornbury Farm in West Chester was the site of the final skirmish in the 1777 Battle of Brandywine, where British forces fired on American troops for the first time.
The main home on the farmstead was built in 1709 and expanded every 80 years or so.
Researchers from Duke University visited the farm in the 1980s to research paranormal activity on the property. They reported finding nine spirits roaming around. Among them was a girl who was searching for a doll near one of the covered wells in the barn.
The ghost of the original owner still haunts the main house, where he ended his life by hanging himself over a now-covered well in the basement.
Some of the soldiers from the Battle of Brandywine are also said to be haunting the property.
