Brandywine Valley Heating & Air Conditioning recently attended the West Chester Downtown Foundation Preservation Awards at the Chester County History Center on Oct. 17 to celebrate the architectural work in the community. At the event, BVHVAC’s Geothermal and Big Project Specialist Rick Redmond did geothermal for two of the projects that won the Bricks and Mortar awards.
Redmond has a 30-year-long history with Brandywine Valley Heating & Air Conditioning and his specialization in geothermal plays a crucial role in preserving the environment. Geothermal uses the earth’s natural heat to regulate temperatures and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, which leads to minimal greenhouse gas emissions, a smaller carbon footprint, and lower energy consumption.
BVHVAC is thrilled for Redmond and the exceptional work he does to preserve the charm and history of West Chester.
About Redmond’s Award-Winning Projects
The two award-winning projects Redmond was involved in are the renovations and additions to the c. 1755 Dower House (100 Goshen Road) and the renovations and additions to the c. 1900 house (631 North Matlack Street).
The Dower House is considered to be the oldest continuously occupied home in West Chester and is currently owned by restoration enthusiasts Tait and Lisa Norden who were drawn to the home’s historic construction, intact details, and unique spaces. The success of The Dower House project is the result of collaboration among professionals such as Redmond in tandem with the project architect, other tradespeople, and the owners to achieve a remarkably elevated level of detail, fit, and finish in alignment with the project budget.
Owners Matt and Paige Adams at 631 North Matlack Street set out (in 2021) to do a reverse subdivision to consolidate the two-lot property into one. They wanted to enlarge the home for their family of five while also respecting the architectural character and scale of the existing structure. The project preserved the original home’s character while offering expanded living space and respecting the character of their residential neighborhood.
