Toughkenamon’s WGK Glass Art Will Host Annual Glass Art Pumpkin Festival This Weekend

Sandra Jahn and Thomas von Koch.

Sandra Jahn was born in Germany, close to Lauscha, a traditional glassblowing town, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

32 years ago, she started as self-employed glassblower in Germany before coming to the United States in 2015. Now, she works for WGK Glass Art in Toughkenamon. It was founded Jahn’s friend and fellow glassblower, Thomas von Koch.

WGK Glass Art offers a wide range of pieces, including ornaments and earrings.

“I think everyone can find something here,” Jahn said.

WGK Glass Art is set to host their annual Glass Art Pumpkin Festival this weekend, from Sept. 27 to Sept. 29. Guests will be able to embrace the fall season, enjoy delicious food and drink, listen to live entertainment, and even get the chance to make their very own glass pumpkin.

The workshop offers weekend classes all year long and is open to visitors six days a week.

“We have an open studio. People can come and visit us and watch our glassblowers create,” said von Koch. “When I started WGK Glass Art in 2001, I was the only glassblower here.”

Today, the studio has six glassblowers, and they hope the timeless tradition will carry on.
