Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale is Pioneering Watershed Health
Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale has been performing cutting-edge research for decades on what helps our water streams stay clean and life-giving, writes Joan Holliday for The Daily Local News.
The center is promoting its knowledge and stewardship through international research, education, and watershed restoration efforts.
Earlier this month, Development Director of Stroud Water Research Center Jessica Provinski shared an overview of the organization and the work it is doing during a presentation to the Kennett Community Coffee Klatch.
The center offers many education programs throughout Chester and Lancaster counties. Last year, the organization held classes and labs for more than 10,000 students both on and off campus. Some of them explore in canoes, sampling water to determine its quality, while others visit the center and use the streams on the main campus for their exploration.
Meanwhile, Stroud’s Watershed Restoration Group aims to help large landowners and farmers mitigate the impact they are having on freshwater systems through education and implementation of best management practices that improve water quality without reducing profits – such as tree planting.
