Already Business Owners of a Phoenixville Coffee Shop, Couple Embarks on Second Successful Venture
Laura Vernola and her husband Ed Simpson have run Steel City Coffeehouse and Brewery in Phoenixille for the past 6 years, and their most recent venture came alive midway through the pandemic in the village of Mont Clare, writes Donna Rovins for the The Daily Local News.
The process of securing the site of the former Eagles Nest Deli and opening a second business was not easy, and while the couple may have wanted to quit cold turkey, funding from a nonprofit and business planning helped them open this past April.
Renamed Mont Clare Deli & Market, the menu offers sandwiches named after surrounding communities, as well as tray items such as sausages, lasagna, pulled pork, and sides. Some of their more recent changes include adding online ordering and a “drop and go” catering option.
Additionally, the market is nearly in place to provide a variety of items that people can grab while they are in,
“We are trying to source Pennsylvania products, as well as products from woman-owned and family-owned businesses,” said Vernola.
Vernola and Simpson said they have many plans in action to extend hours, outdoor seating, and the possibility of a farmers market.
