Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones, and Angel will easily recognize actor David Boreanaz, who has roots in Pennsylvania, with his father being veteran Philadelphia TV broadcaster Dave Roberts, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.  

Born David Paul Joseph Boreanaz, he was named after his father and grew up in Buffalo and Villanova.

“I was named after my father, of Action News fame. The biggest weather forecaster in Philly for many years. I like to call him the mayor of Philadelphia,” Boreanaz said.

Having his father in the spotlight was exciting for Boreanaz, but also humbling, as his father taught him that everyone should be treated kindly and fairly.  

Growing up, he attended Malvern Prep before moving to Los Angeles in 1991.

He reflected on his time at school, saying “My worst subject at Malvern Prep was … chem, without a doubt. I totally memorized the periodic table and still got a C- on my final. That’s with a tutor! That’s how bad it was.” 

Boreanaz was first inspired to act in sixth grade after seeing Yul Brynner in The King and I in Philadelphia. Today, he’s currently acting in a military series called SEAL Team, which is embarking on its seventh and final season.
