A record number of new students will be on the Widener University campus in Chester for the 2024-25 school year, writes Pete Bannon for the Daily Times.

The university welcomed 900 first-year students to campus Monday as they began moving into dorms.

It is the largest incoming first-year class in the university’s history.

Students showed up from 13 states and about a dozen other countries.

The incoming freshman moved into 17 residence halls on the 110-acre campus, which has a total enrollment of more than 5,600.

The university reports that 87 percent of new students at Widener will live on campus.

Despite the larger numbers, university staff was on hand to help with the move.

“We’ve been doing it for years. It’s good stuff, said Widener’s longtime volleyball coach Donovan Anglin, who was there Monday to help, along with some of his players.

Widener President Dr. Stacey Robertson, beginning her third year as president, was there to greet the students and their parents.

“Best day of the year besides graduation,” she said.

Robertson said the school creates a sense of belonging for every person who comes to the campus.

“We make you feel at home,” she said.
