Inventive Design Update Provides Extra Flair to This West Chester Home

Instead of a sunroom, West Chester residents Lauren and Jay Stauffer decided to add a 21st-century interpretation to their home.

When Lauren and Jay Stauffer decided to update their West Chester home, they first considered replacing the existing second-floor deck with a small four-seasons room, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today

However, Kate Pechinka of Kate Kelly Interiors had a better idea.

“The clients really wanted a space that would allow them to effortlessly enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds them,” Pechinka said.

So instead of a sunroom, the couple added a 21st-century interpretation of a covered porch. The two-story addition includes a multiseason covered porch on the second level and a luxurious guest suite below.

The covered porch doubled the size of the deck it was replacing. It features a soaring tongue-in-groove ceiling, a seating area, a large dining room table, and stunning views. It is also outfitted with built-in heating units to ensure the space can be fully enjoyed throughout the entire year.

“Our covered deck has all the features you’d want in your living room – beautiful light fixtures, cedar ceilings, cozy furniture, and a dining space,” said Lauren

The couple have also made some changes throughout the home to achieve a relaxed and refreshed vibe.
