The United States is filled with hundreds of dive bars that hit the spot for all kinds of customers, and one of the 30 best is located in Philadelphia, writes Meagan Drillinger for Far & Wide.

Ranking ninth on the list is Bob & Barbara’s Cocktail Lounge on South Street.

Opened by Robert Porter and Barbara Carter in 1969, the dive bar has become synonymous with its free live music and for having one of the city’s longest-running drag shows.

More than a half-century later, Bob & Barbara’s Cocktail Lounge continues to carry on the legacy of the original owners.

Since 1994, the dive bar has served something called “the special.”

“The bar’s “special” has been a can of PBR [Pabst Blue Ribbon] and a shot of Jim Beam. It’s a $4 deal and one that will certainly get you going on the right foot,” Drillinger wrote.
