Nichol Park in Landenberg Turns Into Magnificent Garden of Wildflowers, Grassy Trail Paths

Thanks to grants from the DCNR and Western PA Conservancy, Nichol Park in Landenberg was transformed into a magnificent garden.

After spending many hours over the years mowing the entirety of Nichol Park in Landenberg on a weekly basis, Adam Brady, the supervisor of parks and open space for London Britain Township, found the whole process to be lacking not just aesthetically and economically, but also environmentally, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

Two years ago, he learned about a lawn-to-meadow grant opportunity from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation Resources.

He soon proposed the project to the township’s Board of Supervisors, who fully supported the idea.

“My family and I moved to Landenberg for the vistas and wildlife landscapes, so when it came time to make the decision whether to continue to have Adam continue to mow this field or pursue a better opportunity, the choice was easy,” said Brian Sachs, one of the township supervisors.

The board applied for and was able to secure nearly $100,000 in grants from the DCNR and Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

This money has helped transform almost 12 acres of Nichol Park into a magnificent natural garden filled with wildflowers and grassy trail paths.
