Will Riley, a five-star small forward prospect who plays for The Phelps School in Malvern, committed to the University of Illinois over Alabama, Arizona, and Kentucky, among others, write Lukas Weese and Tobias Bass for The Athletic.

According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-8 forward from Canada is the ninth-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025. He can also reclassify from the 2025 class to 2024 and could start playing for the Fighting Illini this season, if he so chooses.

Riley is the highest-ranked commitment in the history of the Illinois basketball program. He has also been one of the biggest stock risers in the last few months as he is sixth on the Nike EYBL circuit with 21.9 scored points per game, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

He is currently one of the nation’s best scorers. He put the world on notice in May in a game against Team Durant where he scored 42 points on 78.9 percent shooting from the field – including six made three-pointers.

As a versatile volume scorer, Riley is expected to present plenty of problems for the opposing defenses.
