Malvern-Based Tela Bio Launches New Product ‘Kind of Like Krazy Glue’ for Healthcare Repair Use
Malvern-based Tela Bio recently launched a new product it is expecting to see significant revenue from, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The product is described as “kind of like Krazy Glue” for use in hernia repair by the company’s CEO Antony Koblish.
Tela Bio is marketing Liquifix in the United States. The product is made by United Kingdom-based Advanced Medical Solutions. The two companies entered into a distribution agreement last year. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Liquifix offers an alternative to mechanical tacks, sutures, and staples, which are used to affix mesh in hernia procedures. The product is designed to reduce the risk of tissue trauma during the procedure as well as minimize the risk of complications.
Over a million hernia surgeries are performed in the United States each year, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Liquifix has already been used in Europe in hundreds of thousands of procedures.
Tela Bio has not offered a sales forecast.
“I can say it will help our Ovitex franchise because it will get us in front of customers who are currently not using that product,” said Koblish.
